Your Lexington Pediatric Dentists
Dr. Michael Coppe received his undergraduate degree from Fordham University, and carried out his postgraduate training in Pediatric Dentistry at Children’s Hospital in Boston and Harvard School of Dental Medicine. He then went on to earn Doctor of Dental Medicine and Doctor of Medical Science in Oral Biology degrees from Harvard University.
After graduating from the Harvard School of Dental Medicine, Dr. Carolyn Coppe completed her pediatric dental residency at the University of California. She has also done research on dental stem cells from primary teeth at the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research in Maryland, eventually completing her master thesis on this topic, This research resulted in her winning the prestigious Ralph E. McDonald Award at the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry Annual Meeting in 2008, which is given to an orthodontic resident with the best overall research manuscript and presentation. In 2011, Dr, Coppe passed her examinations with the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry, verifying she had successfully completed an advanced educational program accredited by the American Dental Association Commission on Dental Accreditation, as well as a voluntary examination process designed to validate her knowledge, application, and performance requisite to the delivery of exceptional care in pediatric dentistry.
Dr. Stephanie Karapetian earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from the University of Miami, where she was granted a Dean's Scholarship. She then moved to NYC to attend the New York University College of Dentistry, where she graduated with a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree after completing honors programs in Public Health, Aesthetic Dentistry, and Pediatric Dentistry. During this time, she was also awarded the Pierre Fauchard Certificate Of Merit for outstanding and dedicated service to the profession. After some time spent doing global outreach, Dr. Stephanie continued to pursue her specialty training in Pediatric Dentistry at NYU and Bellevue Hospital. This gave her a wide range of experience working with children with craniofacial anomalies, special needs, and children with complex medical histories.
Lexington Pediatric Dentistry
Pediatric dentists are dental specialists who have been trained to treat infants, children, adolescents, and children with special needs. In order to qualify as a pediatric dentist, doctors must complete an American Dental Association (ADA) accredited post-doctoral course, along with at least two academic and clinical years in the specialty of pediatric dentistry.
Because pediatric dentists are experienced in treating younger patients, they also tend to be better equipped for handling the emotional and developmental issues that can have an impact on a child’s dental appointments. A trip to the dentist can be scary for people of any age, but pediatric dentists like Drs. Mike and Carolyn Coppe and Dr. Stephanie Karapetian have the educational training and skills to make children feel more comfortable and at ease during their dental visits. This helps to reassure them and keeps their early experiences positive.
Our Lexington office has been tailored to cater specifically to children. During a patient’s first visit, our staff will use reassuring words and phrases. For example, asking younger children if they want to have their teeth “counted and brushed” rather than asking if they are ready for a “dental cleaning.” To help children feel comfortable with our staff, we will often play games, sing songs, or let them explore the treatment area with our guidance. A child-friendly environment gives our team the opportunity to make the appointment more interactive and positive for everyone involved.

Dr. Chad Sears attended the University of California at San Francisco for his orthodontic education, where he was selected to be the Chief Resident. He has published his research in peer-reviewed orthodontic journals and was awarded the prestigious Thomas Graber Research Award from the American Association of Orthodontists. Dr. Sears is also an eligible Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics, and is an Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of California.
Lexington Orthodontics
Orthodontics is a dental specialty that focuses on aligning the teeth and bite, and can also help modify the growth of the face. Through a variety of treatment options, Dr. Sears is able to correct teeth and jaws that are improperly positioned by diagnosing, preventing, and treating dental and facial irregularities. As a dental specialist, his goal is to produce beautiful smiles as well as a good bite. In simpler terms, he works to achieve straight teeth that are aligned well with the jaws in both appearance and functionality.
Among the orthodontic services Dr. Sears provides in our Lexington office are:
- clear and traditional metal braces
- Invisalign (as a Premier Preferred Invisalign Provider)
- jaw growth modification
- orthodontics for severe bite problems
Orthodontic appliances such as braces and Invisalign help move the teeth into more desirable positions using gentle, continuous pressure on the teeth and jaws. This method can also be used to retrain the muscles of the jaw and affect its growth. Thanks to ongoing research and innovation, today’s appliances are more comfortable and efficient than ever, and Dr. Sears will base each treatment plan on the patient’s specific needs and goals. This leads to not only the most effective treatment, but the best results as well!
There is no age limit for orthodontic treatment, and Dr. Sears treats children, adolescent, and adult patients. Everyone deserves a straight, attractive smile no matter their age, and achieving these results is often easier than a potential patient may think!
